Feeding The Baby
I know your pile of goo might not look like much
But it is
It’s the start of something great
You’re creating life!
Actually you’re capturing life
See, sourdough starter is all about capturing the wild yeast and bacteria that live in the air around you
That’s why every starter is different
As much as you want that sourdough loaf to taste like the fresh baked bread you had on your trip to San Francisco
It won’t!
Just like every baby is different
So is your sourdough starter
It’s going to be unique to your environment
And guess what…?
If you move to a new house
A new town
A new country
Your starter is going to change
And your bread will taste a little different
Isn’t that cool!
(I think it is at least, but I’m a bread dork)
So, what does Day #2 look like?
A lot like Day #1
You probably won’t have any bubbles yet
As a matter of fact
It probably looks like the nasty paste you made in kindergarten
And it tastes the same too
No need to try it this time around
But don’t be discouraged
You’re doing fine
Becoming a sourdough parent takes time
Take patience
Takes love
I have confidence in you
But enough of that
Your baby is hungry
Let’s feed her/him (you decide)
Today
And the next 5 days
Are going to seem like a version of
Groundhog Day
Your Baby needs the following
1/3c warm water (refer to Day #1 notes on water)
1/2c flour (refer to those notes)
And mix until your paste is paste-like
Cover with that kitchen towel
And kiss it goodnight until tomorrow
Good job!
I told you
you could do it
See you tomorrow
