Egg-Tastic
I love to eat eggs. They are egg-tastic. I eat at least two eggs almost every morning. They are my breakfast of choice. Now my favorite way is to eat them scrambled with coconut oil and some bacon, but just fried over-medium does me just fine too.
It was only a few years back when the government and media was telling us not to eat eggs. That they were bad for us, caused high cholesterol and led to heart disease.
What we’re they smoking?
Eggs are like the most perfect food.
And that whole cholesterol thing is a bunch of crap.
There are more medical studies now debunking the anti-egg movement, than studies that tell you that they are bad.
Eggs are good for you. And here are the 10 reasons why you should be eating eggs:
1) Eggs are supper nutritious. They contain Vitamin A, Folate, Vitamin B5, B12, & B2, Phosphorus, Selenium, Vitamin D, E, K & B6, Calcium & Zinc. At only 77 calories per large egg, they have 6g of protein & 5g of healthy fats, with 0 carbs. They’re pretty much the most perfect food, whole eggs are among the most nutritious food on the planet, containing a little bit of almost every compound, vitamin and mineral we need to survive and thrive as a species.
2) Eggs are high in good cholesterol. While a single egg contains 71% of your daily cholesterol, it does not adversely affect or raise your blood cholesterol levels, instead you liver just produces less cholesterol for the day.
3) Eating eggs actually raise the HDL, “good cholesterol”, in your blood stream, and people with higher levels of HDL in their blood typically have lower risk for heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular problems. Consistent egg consumption leads to elevated levels of HDL, the good cholesterol.
4) Eggs contain choline, probably something you’ve not really ever heard of… But it is a very important substance used to build cellular membrane and molecules within your brain. Eggs are among the very best source of the super-mega-important compound for your brain health.
5) Eggs help convert your really bad cholesterol, the small dense LDL particles, to large dense LDL particles. While this might not seem like much, it is the small dense LDL particles that are REALLY bad for you and your circulation. Anything you can do to get rid of, or minimize these particles will help you.
6) Compounds in eggs have been found to reduce the risks of cataracts and macular degeneration in your eyes. Eggs are loaded with Lutein and Zeaxanthin, super-strong antioxidants that build up in your eyes retina. In addition to Lutein and Zeaxanthin, eggs have high levels of Vitamin A , which helps prevent blindness.
7) Pasture grazed chickens lay eggs that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acid, and omega-3’s are known to reduce blood triglycerides, and thus improving your heart and cardiovascular health.
8) Eggs are a complete protein that contain all the essential amino acids for building protein structures within your body. And as you know, eating adequate amounts of protein daily is essential for body fat loss and management.
9) There is no association in the general public that links egg consumption to any risk for heart disease.
10) Eating eggs makes you feel fuller and thus eat fewer calories over time. Eggs are incredibly fulfilling.
So if you aren’t eating eggs, I bet you are going to start now. I always have eggs in the house and the kids love to have hard boiled eggs as an afternoon snack. As I started my Paleo/Primal journey I needed to have something to replace my snacking tendencies, and I found that eggs were the perfect fit. After eating one or two hard-boiled eggs I wasn’t hungry any more and always had increased energy levels.
So go ahead, have an egg. Order the scramble. Enjoy a frittata. Farm-fresh eggs are nutritious, healthy and just down right tasty.
